The sun sets once again over lake Isengard. How many years has it been? The waters have never subsided, some say the earth won't allow them too, as a constant reminder to the last great war. But the caverns go deep, and many good fish live here, so grab your poles and let's go.
This is a beautifully composed and rendered picture. What seems to be a late spring or high summer sunset compete with reflections and the streak of light across the water as the sun reaches the horizon. The impact of the picture is such that it can, and I'm sure does, hit those who aren't fans of The Lord of the Rings. One can see in this a flooded ancient city now lost to us as the sea claims it. Or we can see it as it is, Isenguard following the victory over evil that Frodo and Sam won with Strider and the rest. The abiding triumph of good over evil. A wonderful work.
I really love the composition here. It looks like you went out of your way with the rendering to make it look as photographic as possible. The only part that concerns me is the bottom edge of the water, the reflection seems to be a bit strange on the right edge, but, it's really a very minor issue, the rest of the piece is beautiful.
I wonder what it might look like with the sun higher up in the sky? Although I think one of the strongest points is probably the area on the right where the blue turns to green, it's a very strong section of the piece.
Actually the image looked pretty good even with the sun up higher, the detail on the tower was more apparent, but when I put the sun here I really liked the suns reflection, so that was the deciding factor.
I actually thought this was a photo first, then I had a closer look at the tower and doubted such a structure actually exists. Thinks it's the water, sky and lighting effects that lends it the strong aspect of photo-realism.
